Reception for 68th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China held in Juba

On September 28,2017, the Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan, H.E. He Xiangdong and Madam Xia Lining held a reception to celebrate the 68th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China at the embassy compound.

Over 200 guests attended the event, including Hon.Stephen Dhieu Dau, the representative of the government of South Sudan and Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Hon.Jemma Nunu Kumba, Acting Secretary General of SPLM, Hon.Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, Minister of Petroleum, Hon.Lt. Gen.Michael Changjiek Geay, Minister of Interior, Hon. Rebecca Joshua Okwaci, Minister of Roads and Bridges, Hon.Richard Mulla, Minister of Federal Affairs, Hon.James Janga Duku, Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, Hon.Deng Deng Hoc, Minister of General Education, H.E.Festus Mogae, Chairperson of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission and former president of Botswana, H.E.Moustapha Soumare, acting head of UNMISS, members of the Diplomatic Corps and representatives from international organizations, Chinese peacekeepers and peace-keeping police officers and representatives from Chinese community in South Sudan.


Ambassador He gave a brief overview of China’s great development achievement in the past 68 years and the fruits of FOCAC Johannesburg summit and the Ninth BRICS Summit which benefit the developing countries. He said the Chinese economy grew 6.9% in the first half of this year. China’s economy is shifting towards an innovation driven model after many years of structural reform. “China is confident to maintain medium and high speed of development, making further contribution to global growth in the years to come," said the Ambassador.


The Ambassador also made a brief summary of the tangible progress of Sino-South Sudan cooperation in the fields of energy, infrastructure, health and education, as well as the large quantity of humanitarian aid to South Sudan by China. Ambassador He reiterated China’s firm support to the peace process in South Sudan. “It is China’s hope that the IGAD-led High Level Revitalization Forum and the National Dialogue initiated by H.E. President Salva Kiir will yield substantial results and bring peace back to South Sudan. China will always be a sincere and reliable partner of South Sudan in its peace and development process, ” said Ambassador He.


On behalf of H.E.President Kiir and the Government of South Sudan, Minister Stephen Dhieu warmly congratulated the government and people of China on the 68th Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and its great development achievements. He said that South Sudan is grateful for the role China is playing in peacekeeping operations, infrastructure development, humanitarian assistance and provision of medical services for the people of South Sudan.

He said the government of South Sudan, recognizing the importance of viable relations with Beijing, seeks to strengthen ties with China. “We particularly value our economic cooperation characterized by substantial investment by many Chinese companies in the oil sector which remains the life line for the government and the people of South Sudan. China remains the only country that sends medical team to our needy people. The people and the government of South Sudan look forward to strengthening the relationship between the people and the government of the People’s Republic of China and our country,” the Minister said.
